This iteration takes advantage of the nature of The Matrix to reboot the setting and tackling modern issues, while able to fully maintain the integrity of the existing narrative. No retcons, no ignoring other films.

Like Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Resurrections is well-executed, fun, flavored with references to the originals, and feels like an authentic work in and of itself (not merely cash grab). I hope those two films represent the start of a new trend in expanding franchises.

I enjoyed it, I recommend it, I will watch it again.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 100 words or less – Spoiler Free

No, seriously.

 

Here’s the highlights:

  • Visually stunning in a way that perfectly executes a blend of cinema and comic book that hasn’t been done before, but absolutely needs to be done again
  • Well-written (for real) story that contains actual surprise moments
  • Well-acted with a great cast
  • Humor and action for toddlers to adults
  • Great soundtrack (Sunflower is still stuck in my head)

This is a movie for the whole family, not just avid or casual Spider-man fans. Fans of The Incredibles or Big Hero 6 will like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Just go watch it.

 

Ralph Breaks the Internet Review in 100 Words or Less – Spoiler-Free

Ralph Breaks the Internet, aka Wreck-It Ralph 2, is decent sequel full of fun moments and occasional laughs.

While the overall plot is clear for all audiences, the computer- and Internet-related references are going to be lost on younger viewers. This wasn’t an issue for Wreck-It Ralph, as the cameo characters weren’t necessary to “get” the concept.

Multiple times I found myself bored and wondering if Ralph Breaks the Internet grew up a little too much for fans of the goofy fun of the original, more so than The Incredibles 2.

Thumbs up, with reservations. I’ll probably buy it.

The Incredibles 2 Review in 100 Words or Less – Spoiler-Free

The Incredibles 2 is a worthy successor to what I still consider one of the best super hero films of the past two decades.

The aesthetics and atmosphere are unaltered in this immediate sequel, instead merely updated to current-generation graphics.

Action and humor are a well-balanced hit, although one sequence is particularly dark, leading my 5-year-old to proclaim, “This is too creepy!” and many his age group to cover their eyes.

Adult viewers will guess the twists early on, but the story is still solid and entertaining.

This movie gets a thumbs-up from my whole family. Definitely buying the Blu-ray.
